The motif of Bahc Gayeon’s works is Korean folk religion culture, which she uses to explore human life. Her works involve the use of Korean culture that used to be a close part of our lives but are slowly disappearing, such as village tree shrines, colorfully decorated biers, puppets, ancestral rites, etc. This work titled <Danoje> (2022) expresses the Gangneung Danoje Festival by playing with shadows.* Danoje Festival, which infuses the cultures of the past, present and future like a melting pot, is a symbol of communal strength and trust in the community’s harmony.

박가연은 한국 민간 신앙 문화를 작업의 모티프로 삼아 인간의 삶을 탐구한다. 성황당나무, 꽃상여, 꼭두, 제사 등 생활에 밀접했지만 점점 사라지고 있는 우리 문화를 활용해 작업해 왔다. 

이번 작품 <태양의 축제>(2022)는 그림자놀이를 이용하여 강릉 단오제를 표현한다. 이 제목은 단오가 일 년 중 양기(陽気)가 가장 왕성한 날로, 신라 사람들이 일월신(日月神)를 경배하는 민족이라 불렸던 것*에서 따왔다. 과거와 현재, 미래의 문화를 용광로처럼 녹여내는 단오제는 공동체적 힘과 지역사회 화합의 믿음에 대한 표상이라고 볼 수 있다.
