Based on her interest in cultural customs that returned the appearance of life to scientific visual information and artistic forms, Soyo Lee explores biological specimens, models, and illustrations in life science-natural history-art. Her work <Boxwood: Mt. Seokbyeongsan>(2018/2022) was created by examining Buxus microphylia, a species of boxwood which is a typical hedge plant of the downtown area, growing wild on the limestone of Seokbyeongsan Mt. in Gangneung. She uses locally obtained plants and minerals to present an installation made up of sculptures, texts, and videos. Her work <Shallow Sea>(2021) that considered the ceaselessly changing material world of Earth while examining the fossils and plants she found in Gangwon-do will a lso be on display. Lectures and workshops are also scheduled to introduce the various appearances of boxwood and the lime cycle of limestone during the exhibition.
