Music and its influence are central to Song-Ming Ang’s practice. He creates objects, videos, and images that reflect our multifaceted relationship to music, as individuals and as a society. The artist questions some crucial subjects: the issue of originality in music; the definition of music genres; music as a collective creation rather than an individual expression; the contexts in which society experiences music. In his work <Be True to Your School>(2022), adults try to sing their primary school song on camera, with the song often breaking down as the singers struggle to remember the lyrics. All recordings were made in Gangneung, and performed in one take, without rehearsals.
