BAHC GAYEON

Born in 1985.

Studied sculpture at Hongik University College of Fine Arts and is currently working on her doctorate in sculpture at Hongik University Graduate School.

The motif of Bahc Gayeon’s works is Korean folk religion culture, which she uses to explore human life. Her works involve the use of Korean culture that used to be a close part of our lives but are slowly disappearing, such as village tree shrines, colorfully decorated biers, puppets, ancestral rites, etc. This work titled <Danoje> (2022) expresses the Gangneung Danoje Festival by playing with shadows.* Danoje Festival, which infuses the cultures of the past, present and future like a melting pot, is a symbol of communal strength and trust in the community’s harmony.
