Lucia Kempkes is interested in the concept of landscape, mobility, and the materials and objects that humans invented to move and reach places. The video artwork <Parallax: Ebene> (2015) films the scenery she encountered while traveling. “Ebene” means ‘plain’ in German, which can be meant as ‘normal’ and ‘usual’ as well as ‘fields’ and ‘valley.’ The video refers to the common view from a car rushing by the Landscape that we all know. It allows the spectators to dive into memories of youth, travel, remembrances of hometown, and the uncertainties of sceneries that essentially do not exist perpetually. The freely flowing view outside of the window expresses various perspectives on scenes that we may easily overlook or that we still dream and think about.
